About Us
Mission Statement
by Aaron Hassell – NoobTube.tv Co-founder
Passion can be defined as boundless enthusiasm. Few terms can better describe gamers. In 1958 Willy Higinbotham invented the first “video game” on his oscilloscope. Since then a passion for games has grown our community into what it is today. For many of us gaming is more than just a fun past time or hobby. It is a way of life. We have entrenched ourselves into the gaming culture, a community that knows no social bounds. A society united to say “WE GAME.”
For many years, American gamers have been labeled as social outcasts, geeks, nerds, and introverts. Today, gamers have shattered these stereotypes. We come in all shapes, sizes, colors and ages. Over the last decade, our industry and community has grown exponentially. Gamers are harbored in 65% of households in the United States.
However, as in life with any growth comes struggle. As gamers, if we are anything, we are loyal. We are loyal enough the term “fanboy” has been coined in reference to this loyalty. Amongst our own community “fanboyism” is the root of many heated debates. The console wars, the PC versus consoles war, the game genre wars etc. Although these examples may create some tension in our community, NoobTube’s passion is at the root of a much greater concern. In 1983 the North American Video Game crash nearly destroyed the video game industry. The cause of this crash was the flooding of sub-par systems and games onto the market. Since then, the industry has grown a hundred fold and the same greed that nearly destroyed the industry once is amidst again. After the video game crash, developers that survived understood that in order to maintain our loyalty, the quality of product they produced had to be unquestionable.
As of recent, the market is becoming flooded with sub-par games and systems. Games are released with the intent of them being patched. Popular gaming hardware fails on a normal basis. Sequels are being made to games that never played correctly in the first place. The gamer voice has become a whisper in a storm of greedy sales and calamity.
However, it is our own gamer ignorance that has brought us to this point. Those of us that have grown up within the gaming culture have failed to educate the massive influx of new gamers. We label them as “noobs” and leave them their own devices. Although they share the same passion for gaming that we do, they are taken advantage of with targeted marketing specifically for their casual level. The best gaming experiences come from not only a quality game, but also from sharing those experiences with other gamers. It is this camaraderie that the foundation of our gaming community is built on. It is also the driving force to educate casual gamers to share these great experiences with, in which Noobtube.tv was created.
NoobTube.tv’s mission is to help educate gamers everywhere on the gamer community, lifestyle, industry, and competitive outlets. We want gamers everywhere to take away the same experience from gaming as we all have (the not-so-casual gamer). Honesty is not always a term synonymous with media, but as gamers ourselves we know it is the only way to gain our viewers trust and respect. We ask those of you reading this to join with us in NoobTube.tv’s mission. Let us all reach out and help strengthen our community and invite others.
